Mr. Rice
Every year it is my disappointment to not see you go into the Hall. We can all pass stats back and forht
but I would like to see another facet looked at. Take a national poll of us regular joes and see who belongs in the hall each year.
I remember as a kid, playing two-man baseball in my buddy’s yard and it was always Jim Rice and the Red Sox vx Dale Murphy and the Braves. You were my inspiration and though I was never good enough to play baseball at a high leverl, you were important to me in how a person should be viewed. Always professional. I carry that with me today.
Number 14 will always be my favorite number.

Dear Mr. Rice,
I just saw the ad for your blog and am logging on for the first time. I wanted to let you know that you were my favorite player when I was a kid growing up south of Boston. I always looked up to and admired your dedication and professionalism (your taking no garbage from the occasional stupid Yankee fan was appropriate as well). Anyway, you will always stand tall in the pantheon of baseball greats and I still proudly display my Jim Rice autographed photo in my office today!

Dear Mr. Rice,
I discovered your blog today. I am 45 and every team I have ever played for, including Babe Ruth, High School, college, adult leagues, and softball, I have always worn number 14! I have lived in NY all my life and I have been a huge fan of yours. There is a on going joke in our basement with my daughters. They have to pay homage to my Jim Rice Shrine ( An autographed bat and card with a sox helmet and a glove with your name on it) while chanting “Jim Ed”. Thank you for all you have done for baseball over the years. You will always be the greatest.
Your biggest fan in NY

I too was your most favorite fan when I was a kid. My Dad and I would head off to the Oakland Colisium alot when you and the Redsox came to town. You gave me some memories that I won’t ever forget. I also have been rooting for you to get into the HOF every year January comes around. Again I’ll say that I hope it’s your year. Fan 4 life.

I just wanted to congratulate you on your election to the Baseball HOF. You were my favorite player while I grew in Columbia SC. I met you when I was 15 years old and got your autograph. You are a true Hall of Fame player. Congratulations!!!

Mr. Rice
I want to congratulate you on your induction to the Hall of Fame. It has been a long time coming. Thanks for all the childhood memories you provided. For a long time growing up when I bought baseball cards, if it wasn’t you, Fred, Dwight, Yas or Pudge ( I live in TX but there’s only one Pudge ) on the card they got thrown. No telling what all I threw away. Again, congrats. You deserve it.

I am blessed to have met you as a young girl when you had spring training in Orlando- and yes, I have your autograph to this day. You are THEE baseball legend in my eyes. I am relieved ( at last ) that you got in the Hall of Fame. You so richly deserve the accolades. If you ever pass through Orlando, this fan would love to show you off at the nearby Red Sox pub.
~ Peace, Laura

Has a date been set for when the Red Sox will formally retire #14 along side the other great HOFers?

Dear Mr. Rice….
I am thrilled for you, your family, and most of all your legacy…Your comments at Cooperstown about not how long you had to wait, but the fact you are in was heartwarming, you accepted your enshrinement the way you played your entire career, with class…just a quick story, in 1978 I was living in Baltimore Md, after the game you could get right up to the vistors clubhouse door for autographs after games, well, the Sox were a powerhouse full of stars, you came out the same time as fisk, lynn and evans, the crowd surged toward Fisk…I was trying to get your attention, you saw me and reached for my outstretched hand and ball, the crowd knocked the ball from my hand, it fell on the ground and rolled by your feet, you turned around, walked for the ball, picked it up, walkled back reached for my pen and signed it….you made a 14 year old kid very happy and I wont forget, still have the Ball, and still have great memories..by the way you smashed a pitch that night over the centerfield scoreboard in the old memorial stadium, what a blast…all the best
